The Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations

The Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations were laid before parliament on 9th April 1999.

The amend the SDA 1975 to include a prohibition against discrimination on the grounds that somebody is undergoing, or has undergone, gender reassignment.

A number of specific defences are introduced, including compliance with religious sensibilities for a minister of religion and a 'tweaking' of the genuine occupational qualification defence.

The regulations come into force on 1st May 1999.
