Vince Cable, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills,
has this morning announced plans to ban exclusivity clauses (which
prevent an individual from working for another employer, even when no
work is guaranteed) in zero-hour contracts.
The government will consult further on how to prevent evasion of the ban (which, on its face, could be circumvented by offering one-hour contracts rather than zero-hour contracts).
Read the BIS announcement.
